The historic "Piper House" was built in 1905 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Interestingly, the house is listed in Mrs. Piper's name. She was a millener. Jim imagines local ladies entering the house to sip tea and to try on the latest in fine hats!
A number of decades ago this home was converted into an upstairs/downstairs duplex to house Duke graduate students. Jim and Jan bought the house in 1992 and enjoyed watching after it, and its grad student residents, for nearly twenty years.
As Jim and Jan near retirement, they returned this house to its original floor plan and glory as a single-family home. They began a complete historic renovation in 2008 and finished it in late 2009. Recently they acquired Historic Preservation Certification from the NC Department of Cultural Resources. Now, Jim and Jan are ready to pass on this lovely, historic home to its lucky new owner.
